Paul Put appointed Harambee Stars coach

Paul Put appointed Harambee Stars coach”

Belgian coach Paul Put was on Saturday confirmed Harambee Stars coach during the Football Kenya Federation's fifth Annual General Meeting held in Mombasa.

His appointment brought the end to the troubled tenure of local tactician, Stanley Okumbi, who was demoted to the role of assistant head coach having been at the helm since March 2016.

Had the AGM adopted the proposal, FKF President Nick Mwendwa and National Executive Committee (NEC) members could have ruled for a total 12 years were they to be re-elected to office for the next two terms.

He has overseen a couple of disappointing results, including Harambee Stars' humiliating home and away losses to lowly-ranked Guinea Bissau in the 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.

According sources, Put, who has previously handled Burkina Faso and Jordan, has signed an initial two-year contract with FKF.

Put's first assignment could be taking charge of the national team in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup which Kenya will host from December 3.

Put resigned his position as manager of the Jordanian national team in January a year ago before taking charge of Algerian giants, USM Alger.

Okumbi was last in charge of the national team on October 8 when Harambee Stars were stunned 2-1 by lowly ranked Thailand in the global friendly to condemn the former Mathare United head coach to his third loss over the last four matches.
