Florida opossum found drunk after liquor store break

Florida opossum found drunk after liquor store break”

One opossum had a rough night after he broke into a liquor store in Florida and accidentally got drunk.

According to Time, employees of the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge got acquainted with the drunken female opossum on November 24, when she was brought in for care by a police officer.

When a Florida bar owner unlocked his store the morning after Thanksgiving, he was surprised to find a wasted stranger with a bottle of bourbon.

She sobered up at the rescue centre before being released back into the wild.

Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge said the animal was happily released on Thursday night.

While it's unclear exactly how much of the liquor she slurped up, an employee of the refuge center, Michelle Pettis, told the Panama City News Herald that she appeared to be sloshed. When Moore found her, it was empty, and the opossum, according to a local wildlife expert, "wasn't fully acting normal".

The refuge prescribed the animal fluids to flush out any toxins that may be present due to potential alcohol poisoning.

He added: "She came in from the outside and was up in the rafters, and when she came through she knocked a bottle of liquor off the shelf".

The store owner, Cash Moore, says he never had an opossum break in before.
