A Garda has been shot in north Dublin this morning”

A Garda and another man have been injured as a result of a shooting in Ballymun on Thursday morning.

It happened this morning before 7am in Ballymun.

It has been established that the Garda Ombudsman has been notified of this morning's incident due to the fact a gun was discharged by a garda member during a planned operation.

Gardai were carrying out a drugs raid at a house on Barnwall Drive when a shot was sacked, injuring a garda from the Emergency Response Unit. Gardai believe those shots were fired from the house.

The injuries to the garda and the man are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incident occurred during a planned search of a house in Barnwell Drive.

The shooting has been reoffered to the garda watchdog - GSOC - for investigation.

The garda was shot in the arm.

Minister for Justice Charles Flanagan said that "incidents like this highlight the danger that can face members of An Garda Síochána in carrying out their duties".
