Pokemon Crystal Arrives on Nintendo 3DS Next Month”

Nintendo officially announced that Pokemon Crystal is coming to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console on January 28, 2018. Crystal is notable as the first "third version" to hit the west (to Silver and Gold), and because it lacks a DS remake.

As a nice bonus, Celebi will be obtainable in this version of Pokemon Crystal.

Players can either purchase a code to download Pokemon Crystal from stores, or simply buy it directly off of the Nintendo eShop next month. Crystal featured numerous enhancements over Gold and Silver, including the ability to choose between playing as male or female, animated sprites, and various balancing fixes. It features the same storyline and setting as the previous two Gen 2 games, but it's been expanded with some new content, such as a subplot that revolves around Johto's Legendary beast, Suicune.

The 3DS version of Pokemon Crystal will be compatible with Pokemon Bank on the day it launches, enabling players to bring select Pokemon from classic core games to the newest core games in the series. This gives players a chance to catch the forever elusive Celebi after completing the events of the main game. Fans can even communicate with digital copies of Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow using the time capsule feature.
