Actresses At Golden Globes To Wear Black To Protest Sexual Harassment

Actresses At Golden Globes To Wear Black To Protest Sexual Harassment”

Wearing a black dress, or even a black suit, (Heya Evan Rachel Wood!) is an admirable, obviously visible way to draw attention to what is clearly an epidemic of not just gender inequality but criminal behaviour. Per People, some Golden Globe nominees plan to wear all black to the January 7 ceremony to protest sexual harassment in Hollywood.

This might prove hard to execute as numerous designers, fashion labels and stylists rely on the promotion of their dresses at these red carpet events to boost publicity and sales. Then came A-listers wearing ribbons in honor of Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. Several sources also confirmed the report to People magazine.

Since Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexually assaulting over 60 women, there has been a snowball effect all throughout the entertainment industry.

The 2018 Golden Globes are officially going to be the best Golden Globes to have ever aired on television and I have the only solid piece of evidence to prove this seemingly hyperbolic statement is true. You'll be able to tune into the red carpet coverage on the same night starting at 6 p.m. ET. E! Entertainment will be covering the red carpet.

"AskHerMore is fundamentally about treating women as full human beings rather than objects", said Newsom to The Hollywood Reporter.

"This movement is spreading rampantly and pretty much all the nominated women and others attending are participating". Stylists who have already dealt with their clients's requests and fittings for dresses are reportedly scrambling to find black dresses.

After all, Black is not a typical awards show color. But as word got out actresses have chose to get on board and make a statement.

But this year's scandals, which include but are not limited to accusations against Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Brett Ratner and TV showrunner Mark Schwahn, have seen more and more women speak out in an industry that has silenced them for too long, or at least kept them quiet by threatening their jobs and careers.

Nominees and presenters are expected to participate, and the trend may pervade not just the Golden Globes but the entire awards season.

This isn't the first time that Hollywood is getting to support a cause. However, there is one more inkling of protest coming from an upcoming awards show.

The decision to make the awards an "All Black Affair" follows the announcement that all presenters at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards will be female. We'll definitely be keeping an eye to see who shows up wearing what! Is protesting via fashion anything other than an empty gesture?
