Three of Coins Functionality > Destiny 2 | Forums”

Three of Coins may be bugged to drop the rate to zero, or Bungie may have reduced it under normal play to compensate for the fact that Three of Coins exists.

If you were thinking that the level of distrust between Destiny 2's player base and developer Bungie couldn't get any higher, think again. To keep this community together, Bungie really need to start 2018 on the front foot with a much more open and transparent dialogue with their players.

The Three of Coins item has returned to Destiny 2 as of last week, but a bug is preventing them from working properly.

In another player-led investigation, Destiny 2 regulars discovered that the Three of Coins consumable wasn't resulting in exotic drops when doing certain activities. Incredibly, sixteen hours of play with Three of Coins active yielded no Exotics.

"This is clearly bugged and there is no way the frequency would be this low or just flat out not there", said Brknsymtry. "Not one." It's gotten to the point where some people simply don't take Bungie's statements at face value anymore. The studio said in a forum post that it "found that Heroic Strikes do not now grant higher chances for Exotics when using Three of Coins consumables, compared to Vanguard Strikes".

A hotfix for this is expected in "early 2018", with that in mind, it may not be a good idea to invest your Legendary Shards into the Three of Coins each week when you visit Xur until the fix is in place.

After fans complained that Three of Coins appeared to be doing virtually nothing over the weekend, Bungie has come back with some answers. Instead of offering hard numbers or even pointing out which activities it applies to, it states, "Increased chance to receive Exotic engrams from sources in the world". Three of Coins was supposed to give players a four-hour buff which should give them increased exotic engram drops after killing a boss or some other activities for the duration of the buff.

As if things weren't bad enough, players have also been reporting issues with another one of Xur's odd curios: the Fated Engram.

Or at least, that's the way they're supposed to work. This item is a consumable that gives you a higher chance of claiming Exotics. However, at the rate at which players are rewarded, it may well be the former.
