White House, Camp David to Screen Spielberg's 'The Post'

White House, Camp David to Screen Spielberg's 'The Post'”

But its makers says it is also intended as an ode to feminism that resonates as powerfully today as the 1970s era in which it is set.

Mr. Hanks, who plays Ben Bradlee, the former editor of The Post, told The Hollywood Reporter in December that he would not attend a White House screening of his own movie.

Of course, just because the White House is being given the film doesn't mean that Trump is actually going to watch it. Hollywood regularly supplies the First Family with new movies, including the Trump family, but that doesn't mean the Commander-in-Chief actually sits through all of them.

Conversations around The Post, Steven Spielberg's film about The Washington Post's decision to publish the Pentagon Papers in 1971, have often turned into conversations about Donald Trump's White House-which is not exactly unintentional.

Streep, who stars in the film as the late Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham, slammed Trump in an emotional Golden Globes acceptance speech a year ago.

In an interview with The New York Times, Streep and Hanks talk about Harvey Weinstein, The Post and its modern relevance among other things. I would not have been able to imagine that we would be living in a country where neo-Nazis are doing torchlight parades in Charlottesville [Va.] and jokes about Pocahontas are being made in front of the Navajo code talkers. You may think: 'You know what?

At last year's Globes ceremony, Streep ravaged Trump during her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Trump responded in a tweet, calling the Academy Award victor and 2016 Democratic National Convention speaker "over-rated".

Don't miss it when it hits theaters on January 12!

"They completely loved the movie, because the movie is about America and the movie is about the truth", she said. This movie is for everyone.

"I don't think I would. Kellyanne loved it, too, and danced all night with [Post co-writer] Josh Singer", Pascal told THR earlier this week.
