Taylor & Bills fall short to Jaguars

Taylor & Bills fall short to Jaguars”

In the post-season for the first time since January 2008, the third-seeded Jaguars (11-6) advanced to play at No. 2 seed Pittsburgh next week.

Nortman's influence was huge when it came to controlling the field position battle in a tight game.

He threw for 87 yards on 12 completions with one touchdown. Dede Westbrook was the Jaguars leading receiver with five receptions for 48 yards receiving.

That helped set up a game-tying field goal as the teams entered halftime in a 3-3 tie. The plan seems old school and simple: get the lead and put the game into the hands of the defense. So, when Colton Schmidt shanked a 34-yard punt, Jacksonville was able to move into position for a 44-yard Josh Lambo field goal to tie the score. He scrambled for a long first down run after fumbling the ball late, prompting a Bills assistant to slam a clipboard and eliciting a huge grin from Bortles.

Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue dived helmet-first into a sliding Tyrod Taylor during the second quarter.

Taylor finished the day with 17 of 38 passes completed for just 134 yards and two interceptions. A few plays later, Peterman's pass was deflected and picked off by Jalen Ramsey. He had to be helped off the field and forced backup Nathan Peterman into the game with 1:27 remaining.

Bills running back LeSean McCoy gutted out an ankle injury sustained in the regular-season finale win over the Miami Dolphins. He rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries and caught six passes for 44 yards receiving.

Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns and Keelan Cole combined for 1,934 yards and eight touchdowns this season but couldn't manage one receiving yard or catch against the Bills.

It was a very smooth game nonetheless and both defenses were flying. Even with given not much support from the offensive side, the Jacksonville defense held Buffalo to only three points, and carried the team to the wild card win.

The upside was this: The Bills made the playoffs, ending their embarrassing 17-year drought, so there's no way anyone can say 2017 was a disappointing season, especially those who thought back in August the franchise was tanking.

If he doesn't turn the ball over, the Jaguars are nearly guaranteed to advance to the AFC divisional playoff round against the Steelers, whom they defeated earlier this season in Pittsburgh.
