U.S. declares highest-level travel warnings to several states in Mexico

U.S. declares highest-level travel warnings to several states in Mexico”

The five states that USA tourists should avoid are Tamaulipas, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Colima, and Guerrero, due to widespread murders, kidnappings, carjackings, and robbery, the new travel advisory revealed.

The level of the State Department #travel advisory alert, a danger level-4 risk, matches the same level travel advisory given for war-torn countries such as Yemen, Syria, and Somalia, Fox News reported.

Tamaulipas on the U.S. border and Sinaloa, Colima, Michoacan and Guerrero on the Pacific coast have been put under the most unsafe places, mostly because they either host trafficking routes or have widespread drug-crop cultivation.

US government employees face travel bans in some areas of Mexico, however there are no government restrictions in the tourist areas of Ensenada, Rosarito, and Tijuana, according to the State Department.

While the United States has designated the entire country as a level-2 alert rating, meaning to exercise caution, having a level-4 is the highest in terms of "potential danger".

But an additional 11 of the 31 Mexican states get a Level 3 warning, "reconsider travel". The list also included Mexico's most populous state - the State of Mexico - which also had most suburbs of Mexico City and Jalisco, the Puerto Vallarta resorts and the lakeside expat community of Chapala and Ajijic. "Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Ajijic".

In the other four states, violent crime is listed as the main threat and USA government employees are given stronger travel restrictions.

They are: Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Jalisco, Mexico, Morales, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi, Sonora and Zacatecas. Nevertheless, two resorts that prohibit USA government personnel to visit are both Acapulco and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. Personal travel by land and to the resort city of Acapulco had already been prohibited.

The state with second-highest homicide rate - 61.6 per 100,000 - was Baja California Sur, home to the twin resorts of Los Cabos.

Rodrigo Esponda, director of the tourism board in Los Cabos, Mexico stated that although crime has not increased there, tourism has risen by sixteen percent and hotel occupancy by eighteen percent previous year.

"We are going to keep working very hard in 2018 to make sure that Los Cabos continues as a safe destination", Esponda said.

There was a fall in tourism in the states listed under level four category in the advisory, even before it was released.
