Officer Cabrera responded to a call of a 12 ½ foot Burmese python found in the middle of a street.

Pembroke Pines Social Media Manager Amanda Conwell said the python was first spotted by an off-duty Customs & Border Patrol officer heading east across the road toward Chapel Trail.

Officer Joseph Cabrera with Pembroke Pines Police Department was called to a neighbourhood on the edge of the Everglades after the snake was seen slithering its way toward the Chapel Trail, found near USA -27.

The snake was transported to the department's west substation where a licensed python trapper took the snake away and had it euthanized.

Cell phone video from another person at the scene shows officer Cabrera singlehandledly subduing the the slithering beast on the side of the roadway.

Burmese pythons are an invasive species in Florida.

Pythons are common in Florida and are considered an invasive species posing a real threat to local wildlife, pets, and even children.

The department warned residents to not approach pythons but to call 911.
