Bairstow: England one-day win not down to Australian Ashes party”

Australia vice-captain David Warner admits that England have set the benchmark on how to go about batting in ODI cricket, saying the tourists are in a great space in limited-overs cricket.

"If you can't celebrate winning the Ashes, I am not sure what you can celebrate other than your wedding or something like that", said Bairstow.

"It has been a very tough tour and when your confidence is low, you are trying to perform the best you can but it's not happening it is disappointing".

His participation in the game is under question and, with Cricket Australia disinclined to call-up Pat Cummins having decided he would be rested from this fixture, 21-year-old seamer Jhye Richardson is in line for a debut.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has admitted that he felt he let his teammates down in the recent Ashes series as he failed to live up to expectations.

'The Barmy Army was singing the whole time. "That was the most disappointing thing for me". It's just that you feel as an individual you are letting your team-mates down. He knows his players and they know their role in the team. It's pretty hard to get away from it and you start doubting yourself as a player.

"It was nice to move to a different format of the game". My confidence has gone up a little bit and hopefully it can keep climbing. An early side strain and finger injury never really allowed Moeen to get going and by the time the tour reached Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test he looked as if he was heading out of the team.

"We know we can beat anybody anywhere whereas in Test cricket all round the world playing away is very hard".

"The attitude is obviously different because it's a different sort of cricket, it's been refreshing".

But Moeen knows that one win does not nail a series that continues at the Gabba on Friday.

Speaking after the morale-boosting win, Ali said: "It's great to be 1-0 up - it has been hard". "A bit of unevenness, a bit of grass coverage, it got us a bit quicker than you expect". "The thing that you have to realise though is that bad performances don't make you a bad player. It's a different squad, with lots of different people".
