Radio host Garrison Keillor fired over 'dozens' of incidents: network”

Minnesota Public Radio provided additional details of allegations of sexual harassment against humorist Garrison Keillor on Tuesday, saying his alleged conduct went well beyond his account in November of accidentally touching a woman's bare back. Keillor described the incident as being nothing more than having placed his band on a woman's back to console her, but an investigation by MPR News found a pattern of behavior that left numerous woman feeling belittled while working with him.

MPR's report comes almost two months after a colleague accused Keillor of acting inappropriately with her. MPR responded to the accusation by cutting business ties with and firing Keillor. "She recoiled. I apologized", Keillor told the Minneapolis Star Tribune after he and MPR parted ways.

MPR fired Keillor, 75, in November.

Keillor did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

A woman details allegations that he placed his hand on her bare back.

In a note to members Tuesday afternoon, MPR President Jon McTaggart said the separation was painful. McTaggart says the woman's attorney sent a 12-page letter outlining accusations of unwanted sexual touching and dozens of inappropriate incidents over a period of years.

"If the full 12-page letter or even a detailed summary of the alleged incidents were to be made public, we believe that would clarify why MPR ended its business relationship with Garrison and correct the misunderstandings and misinformation about the decision", he added.

To critics of the #MeToo movement who fear that we are in the midst of a witch hunt and that blameless men are being publicly destroyed, Keillor's story became exhibit A. In the New York Times earlier this month, Daphne Merkin held him up as a contrast to "heinous sorts" like Kevin Spacey and Matt Lauer, arguing that Keillor had been unfairly tarred with the same brush as serious sexual predators.

MPR said it notified its board October 26 and launched an independent investigation a few days later. MPR said Keillor and his attorney declined to give access to his computer, emails and text messages to allow a full investigation.

In the letter, MCTAGGART also praised KEILLOR as "one of the most talented, creative, generous and hard-working people I've ever met" but noted that mediation to reach agreements on the separation "have not produced the final settlements we had hoped for". The break with the creator and former host of "A Prairie Home Companion" came amid allegations that he engaged in inappropriate behavior.

Over four decades, Mr. Keillor had created a financial juggernaut for the radio network with "A Prairie Home Companion", his weekly broadcast of songs, skits and tales of his fictional hometown Lake Wobegon - along with related books, recordings and other products. The show, now titled "Live from Here", continues with Keillor's hand-picked successor, mandolinist Chris Thile.
