Carrie Fisher posthumously wins Grammy award”

Carrie Fisher was awarded her first Grammy on Sunday.

Fisher, who died in December 2016 after undergoing cardiac arrest, was nominated in the Best Spoken Word Album category for the audio recording of her 2016 memoir, The Princess Diarist when the victor was announced during the 2018 GRAMMYs pre-telecast ceremony.

Fisher, who made Princess Leia an iconic and beloved figure to millions of moviegoers died in 2016 at age 60.

She picked up the win during a ceremony held in the hours before the official kickoff of this year's Grammy Awards ceremony.

Also nominated for the award were Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Bruce Springsteen, Shelly Peiken and Bernie Sanders and Mark Ruffalo.

This was the actress' second Grammy nomination; she was nominated in the same category in 2009 for her other memoir, "Wishful Drinking".

The actress died after she stopped breathing on a plane returning home to Los Angeles after finishing the European leg of her The Princess Diarist book tour.
