OJ Simpson won't forfeit autograph earnings to pay $70M wrongful death suit

OJ Simpson won't forfeit autograph earnings to pay $70M wrongful death suit”

Another lawyer, Ronald Slates, attacked Goldman, saying that he and and his lawyer "attempted to drag Mr. Simpson into court every time they hear a rumor, see something on television, or read in an internet news posting, a mere vague allegation involving Mr. Simpson's commercial exploitation of himself".

O.J. Simpson, for a brief stint, made some money signing autographs after being released from prison past year.

Simpson was paid to sign jerseys, helmets and posters from "The People v. O.J. Simpson" TV series in October, shortly after his release from a Nevada prison, Cook said.

Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg ruled Tuesday after the request was made by an attorney for Fred Goldman, father of Ron Goldman.

"Mr. Simpson has sought to subvert this wrongful death judgment by his abject refusal to pay, much less accept personal responsibility", Goldman's attorney, David Cook, said in court filings, according to the Associated Press.

Originally, a $33.5 million civil suit was filed holding Simpson responsible for the two deaths, though the amount has skyrocketed since that time.

Simpson, 70, served nine years for armed robbery and assault for leading five men, two with guns, into a Las Vegas casino hotel in September 2007 in an ill-conceived effort to confront two sports collectibles dealers over what he claimed was his property.

An attorney for Simpson wrote in court papers that Simpson used the money from autograph sales to cover his legal bills.

Simpson was ordered to pay Goldman $33.5 million, which has ballooned to more than $70 million.

The judge denied it on grounds that Goldman can't identify who is paying Simpson.

While TMZ reported that Simpson didn't appear to be personally handing out candy, he did have a bowl that trick-or-treaters could take candy from. However, over the two decades since the judgment, Goldman seized some of Simpson's money, such as royalties from video games and the rights to a ghostwritten book. But Cook said most of it ended up being worthless and they returned the property to Simpson.

Goldman now has control over the memorabilia that Simpson was allegedly trying to steal back dealers inside a Las Vegas hotel room in 2008.
