New Poll: Majority Want Trump And Mueller To Talk About Russia Probe

A new Monmouth University Poll, which was taken before President Trump's State if the Union address, shows 47% of registered voters indicating they would vote for or lean toward voting for the Democratic candidate in their district compared to 45% who would support the Republican.

Seven in 10 Americans, 71%, say that Trump should agree to be interviewed by Mueller about the Russian Federation probe vs. only 22% who say he should not.

"A majority of respondents from both parties agreed that an interview with Mueller should be under oath, with 93 percent of Democrats, 85 percent of Independents and 67 percent of Republicans agreeing". His disapproval rating remains high, however, as 50 percent say they are unhappy with his job performance, compared to 56 percent last month.

"While there is still some way to go to really win over the public, it looks like the needle has moved in the Republicans' direction since passage of the tax bill", said Patrick Murray, Director of Monmouth University Polling Institute.

58 percent believe Trump tried to fire Mueller last June.

More than six in 10 Americans, 62%, support legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller by requiring a panel of federal judges to sign off before any special counsel could be fired.

By January, 44 percent approved, 44 percent disapproved.

Broad majorities of Democrats, 76%, and independents, 65%, support efforts to shield Mueller from unilateral presidential action.
