Astros Sign 2 Year Deal With George Springer

Astros Sign 2 Year Deal With George Springer”

The Houston Astros and World Series MVP George Springer have agreed to a two-year deal the team announced on Monday.

Springer made nearly $5.4 million in his first four seasons with the Astros. Multiple reports have the deal at 2-years for $24-Million.

The pact buys out this year and next year's arbitration years for Springer. Springer also continues to be rated well by the advanced defensive metrics.

The 28-year-old is coming off a brilliant year where he batted.282/.367/.522 with 34 home runs over 140 games.

The Astros now boast the regular-season (Jose Altuve) and World Series (Springer) MVPs as they head into 2018 season. He followed that up with a.292/.386/.611 line and six more home runs in the playoffs. Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman are under club control through 2021 and 2022, respectively. According to FanRag Sports, Springer's arbitration hearing had been set for Tuesday.

Springer had filed for arbitration at $10.5 million, with the Astros countering at $8.5 million.

The Astros lost their case with closer Ken Giles, who on Saturday was awarded $4.6 million, not significantly higher than the clubs's offer of $4.2 million.

There are still 17 more players scheduled for arbitration hearings.
