Big layoffs at Capcom Vancouver, new Dead Rising reduced in scope

Big layoffs at Capcom Vancouver, new Dead Rising reduced in scope”

A number of posts on social media from former employees have confirmed a mass layoff, which formerly employed around 250 people. According to a source that spoke to Kotaku, Capcom Vancouver's unannounced project has been canceled, and Capcom has cut the scope on the next Dead Rising game.

Although Capcom's recent financial report produced positive results, today the company has made an important decision regarding its studio Capcom Vancouver, which has undergone a restructuring and, therefore, registered a wave of layoffs. Development on the following Dead Rising game was apparently getting out of hand and the shape kept changing, so this was Capcom's response to keep things in line (although the studio is still understaffed). Theses titles tried to have a bigger, more open world for gamers to explore.

These layoffs also had other adverse effects.

The unannounced game, which was a very early prototype and had not yet been greenlit, was envisioned as a third-person action-adventure game set in an alternate reality version of NY, the source said. The game was allegedly a very early prototype that had not yet been greenlit by Capcom.

Capcom did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
