Woman Who Won $560 Million Powerball Last Month Wants to Remain Anonymous”

His firm says it also represented another Powerball victor who won a $487 million prize in 2016 but remained anonymous by claiming the prize through the "Robin Egg 2016 Nominee Trust", with his lawyer serving as its trustee. In the meantime, she hasn't yet presented the ticket to the lottery, which is costing her $50,000 a day in interest.

The lucky victor of a $559 million Powerball jackpot filed a complaint last week seeking to remain anonymous once she claims her prize despite state laws that say the names of winners of jackpots are public record.

The New Hampshire Powerball victor who wants a court order allowing her to stay anonymous says she made a "huge mistake" in signing the winning ticket without consulting a lawyer first.

"She read and reread and reread them again; there was a match", he said.

Writing her name, as opposed to the name of a trust, was a "huge mistake" based on her interpretation of rules posted on the lottery website, the woman said in her complaint in Hillsborough Superior Court in Nashua.

Attorneys representing the woman said she values her privacy and wants to remain an engaged community member.

'She wishes to continue this work and the freedom to walk into a grocery store or attend public events without being known or targeted as the victor of a half-billion dollars, ' NewHampshire.com reported.

The woman hasn't turned in her ticket yet, but she showed Lottery officials a photocopy of the front.

"Her attorney asked if she could "white out" her name in front of lottery officials and replace it with the trust, but was told any adjustment would invalidate the ticket and she'd lose $560 million", the newspaper reported.

She is asking that her name, address and other identifying information remain exempt from disclosure, or, as an alternative, that she be permitted to white out her name, address, phone number and signature from the back of the ticket and replace that information with the trust details.

Christian Teja, a Massachusetts State Lottery spokesman, said, "all prize winners must be disclosed under the Mass".

Jane Doe bought the ticket at Reeds Ferry Market in New Hampshire and the owner of the independent convenience store, Sam Safa, has been inundated with excited regulars.

"The New Hampshire Lottery understands that winning a (US)$560 million Powerball jackpot is a life-changing occurrence", an NHLC spokesperson told Boston 25 News.

Publicity brings significant apparent risk to lottery winners.

A hearing has been set for February 21.

Safa said he will receive a bonus of $52,000 for selling the winning ticket, and he's already been approached several times by charities looking for money.
