Pakistan bans Pad Man for being a film on a 'taboo subject'

Pakistan bans Pad Man for being a film on a 'taboo subject'”

It is to Akshay Kumar's credit that he is making it happen and now it has to be seen how much further does PadMan go from here to enjoy an even better verdict. "I think it's hats off to the women who are in it, who are appreciating it and who inspired us to make this film". "They will realise how deeply empathetic it is to the culture of the Asian subcontinent where women die due to a lack of menstrual hygiene". He concludes, "I urge the Pakistani censor board to view the film".

Ironically, the ban on Padman proves the film's point - it's a conversation that many are scared to have but it's the one that needs to be had.

"Menstruation is a fact of life, and bringing it to mainstream consciousness is neither immoral nor un-Islamic", she wrote on Twitter.

Even though various reports claim that Federal Censor Board has denied issuing a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to the film, cinema owner and film distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla cleared the air while talking to Instep. "We can't allow our film distributors to import films which are against our traditions and culture", Press Trust of India had quoted FCB member Ishaq Ahmed as saying.

R Balki's recent film PadMan which features Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar in a lead role, has been performing exceptionally well at the Box Office. The film deals with menstrual hygiene.

The film is based on the real-life incident of Arunachalam Muruganantham-the man whose initiative to invent low-priced sanitary pad making machines in rural India helped not only his wife but other women in his village to lead a hygienic life.
