HTC's smartphone president, Chialin Chang, resigns”

HTC has also been manufacturing less smartphones in total and over the course of a year ago it made less than 10m units.

HTC's President of Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, Chialin Chang, has resigned.

Chang Chia-lin (張嘉臨) resigned on Wednesday as president of Taiwan-based HTC Corp's Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, at a time when the Taiwanese smartphone brand is struggling against stiff global competition. He was the CFO of HTC in the years 2013-2017. As for the reason behind Chang's decision to resign, the release says he is leaving due to "personal career path". As The Verge points out, Chang was also one of the last remaining high-level executive not to already departed the company. "We thank him for his dedication to the Company for the last six years and wish him well in his future endeavours".

His position seemed useless as HTC sold nearly all of its smartphone design and engineering team to Google.

HTC hasn't yet quit the smartphone business, as the company is expected to launch the HTC U12, a dual-camera flagship phone for 2018.

HTC's new flagship device the HTC U12 may appear in March or April, or even May.

According to local press, Chialin Chang intends to set up his own AI company, which sounds like it has nothing to do with HTC's increasing irrelevance in the mobile tech world. Maybe all of these changes can help HTC switch into a leaner, more innovative company.
