Slovenian Ice Hockey Player Tests Positive for Doping, Suspended From Games — CAS”

Slovenia men's ice hockey player Ziga Jeglic has been suspended for the remainder of the ongoing Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in Gold Coast after failing a drug test, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CSA) has said.

Jeglic has been suspended from the games and has been ordered to leave the Olympic athletes village within 24 hours.

He is the third Olympic athlete to test positive for a banned substance at the 2018 Olympic Games.

Jeglič, who plays for Russian club Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), scored the decisive penalty shot in a Slovenian victory over Slovakia on Saturday (February 17).

Saito said he was innocent of any wrongdoing and said that he had been tested prior to the Games, on January 29, and been found to be drug-free.

"I take the mentioned drug due to asthma under medical advice", Jeglic said in a statement, adding he was tested on Friday. "It has been prescribed to me after testing for respiratory problems in Slovakia in 2017".

"Unfortunately, I forgot to report it as a therapeutic exception". I have overlooked the difference between comparable drugs, which are allowed and would enable me to use it for my respiratory problems during the Olympics.

"Because of my negligence, I apologise to all those who are affected and take further anti-doping procedures".

"Ziga Jeglic will not play for Slovenia against Norway today".

That case could have wider repercussions: Olympic officials will decide this week whether to lift a ban on Russian Federation and let them march behind their national flag at the closing ceremony on Sunday.
