Daniel Ricciardo CRASHES in new Red Bull auto on track debut”

Red Bull's pre-season testing schedule remains on track despite news emerging of Daniel Ricciardo damaging the team's new auto in a crash at Silverstone.

As the team revealed images of the temporary-liveried RB14 on the internet this week, Ricciardo was at Silverstone to shake down the new single-seater.

But luckily the team say the damage is only minor as they prepare for testing in Spain next week.

It has emerged Ricciardo had a low-speed collision with the barriers during the day, although it was enough to cut the day short before it reached the 100km limit mandated in the regulations.

Ricciardo reportedly suffered damage to the front of his vehicle, suspension and floor.

A Red Bull spokesman confirmed everything will run to plan at the first official pre-season test at Barcelona next week, despite fears that Ricciardo's accident will have stripped the team of an opportunity to properly test the car's new design with a lack of spare parts at their disposal.

But Ricciardo failed to reference any problems in a statement issued by Red Bull after the vehicle's track debut.

"The auto felt familiar, I think, which is a good thing", Ricciardo said. "I can already feel that the rear feels pretty settled, even in these poor conditions", he said. "Those are encouraging early signs", said the Australian, who could potentially switch teams during the 2019 Formula One season.

Red Bull, former champions, won three out of the 20 races previous year to finish third behind Mercedes and Ferrari. According to several F1 insiders, the RB14 could help propel Red Bull F1 as a legitimate title contender in 2018.

Ricciardo sounded encouraged by the clean running he did get with the auto and reported no early problems with the controversial Halo device on top of it. "Honestly, unless there's stuff above, I don't see any issues at all on a flat track".
