Whirlpool recalls thousands of 'at risk' kettles

Whirlpool recalls thousands of 'at risk' kettles”

The recall applies to the KitchenAid 1.7 L Electric Kettles, that come with a metal body and plastic handle.

U.S. appliance giant Whirlpool announced Tuesday it was recalling 310,000 kettles worldwide that are potentially unsafe because of faulty handles.

The company has received almost 100 reports of handles separating and four reports of minor burn injuries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported Tuesday.

Internal testing revealed that the handle of the kettle model was at risk of "becoming loose and separating from the kettle, potentially causing injury", according to a statement from the company.

The kettles were sold in Canada between September 2013 and February 2018.

Health Canada said anyone who owns one of the affected kettles should stop using it immediately and contact Whirlpool at 1-800-874-0608 for a free replacement. To view the full list of serial numbers, visit Whirlpool's website.
