Russia's Olympic membership is 'restored', country says”

Russia's team was banned from participating in the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea.

The head of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov thanked the athletes for making the decision to compete despite the obstacles, which he said their performance had ultimately swept away.

The decision had been announced earlier in comments by ROC president Alexander Zhukov on state television.

"This means that the ROC can again exercise all rights and duties conferred upon it by the Olympic Charter, as any other National Olympic Committee". The Olympic committee had promised if the remaining athletes were tested negative, the ban on Russian Federation will be lifted.

'The IOC can confirm that all the remaining results are negative.

A team of 168 athletes who could prove they were clean from doping competed at February's Winter Games as Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR), under the Olympic flag and anthem.

Several IOC members expressed their desire to "draw a line" under the doping saga through the Executive Board's decision. Nadezhda Sergeeva also tested positive for a "banned heart drug".

Russia's chef de mission Stanislav Pozdnyakov apologized to the International Olympic Committee for the violations and said they were "more to do with negligence than malicious intent".

"This, despite Russia's continued retaliation against the IOC's main witness, Dr. Rodchenkov, and Russia's litany of further transgressions, including denial and obstruction toward the International Olympic Committee and WADA".

World Anti-Doping Agency president Craig Reedie told CNN during the Games that the Russians had "come a long way". "Our global experts have worked with them, we've rebuilt it, and it's doing a really good job".

"First is, recognition and acceptance of the results of the McLaren Report, which they steadfastly refuse to do".

Under the neutrality rules, the Russians were unable to wear national uniforms or have their anthem played at medal presentations, although the ice hockey team sang the national anthem on Sunday.

Global soccer's ruling body, FIFA, is also under pressure to probe allegations of doping among Russian soccer players, ahead of the 2018 World Cup that Russia will host in June. The Olympic anthem played when Russians won gold. It was in our souls and heart.
