SNOW: All non-urgent appointments at Rotherham Hospital cancelled”

"You don't go into the NHS to get any reward; it's because you have a passion". However, we have tried to make it business as normal for our patients and staff.

However, an amber warning of snow for much of Scotland is in place until 10am on Friday.

Around ten non-urgent procedures were postponed in NHS Lothian yesterday and evening clinics were cancelled while NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde last night took the step of postponing all routine elective procedures today.

She said: 'We are greatly impressed and appreciative of the efforts made by our staff to care for patients in the most challenging of circumstances.

"We have had to postpone some non-urgent appointments/procedures and a number of patients have been unable to attend". This has happened all over the board area, in our hospitals and community settings.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital, Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Weston Park Cancer Hospital and the Jessop Wing Maternity Hospital, said operations and appointments are largely taking place as planned.

North Cumbria's health staff have rallied round to keep all urgent services running, despite the weather.

It comes as the National Emergency Pressures Panel (NEPP) warned the NHS "should be ready for continued pressure as a result of this cold snap", with a rise in hospital attendance and admissions likely, NHS England said.

'Massive thanks to all of our staff @MonklandsHosp, many staff covering additional shifts and staying overnight in the hospital tonight!

"We are expecting to work on the same basis tomorrow, but we are urging staff and patients to be safe and sensible about going to work and appointments and we are asking them to liaise with clinics and colleagues ahead of time if they are experiencing difficulties".

Meanwhile, NHS 24 said it has been operating at around 50% capacity as many staff have not been able to get to work due to severe weather.

The hospital said this was to allow it to prioritise urgent and emergency cases and ensure that those people most in need would get the best possible care.

She added: "Our people have been unbelievable in their efforts to deliver services and we pay tribute to them for their endurance and support".
