Will Disney Disrupt Fox's X-Men Movie Mega-Plans?

Will Disney Disrupt Fox's X-Men Movie Mega-Plans?”

He's the most philosophical of all the characters I've ever worked on. It would seem that these properties are being kept entirely separate, although there is still concern that Disney could end up exerting influence over R-rated releases such as Deadpool 2 and New Mutants. Even with that in mind, the latest bit of news comes as a huge surprise.

Listed among these upcoming projects: a Silver Surfer movie, now being written by Brian K. Vaughan.

According to an executive, the studio is going "100 miles per hour".

Of course, the Surfer was previously seen on the big screen in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, where he was embodied by Doug Jones (and some CGI). As was reported widely past year, Disney is planning to buy the majority of 21st Century Fox, including the rights to the character Silver Surfer. In THR's report it's revealed that besides for the Deadpool sequel (18 May) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2 November) releasing this year, Fox will be releasing three X-Men universe movies in 2019 and then another three in 2020.

X-Force, THR reports, will begin shooting in October with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Josh Brolin as Cable.

Channing Tatum's Gambit movie is apparently still in production, and New Mutants' April release had to be pushed back due to extensive re-shoots.

Interestingly enough, Fox Studios recently hired former Marvel Comics writer Brian Bendis who is also a former member of Ike Perlmutter's Marvel Comics Creative Committee - whom Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had removed from being involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe - to pen a Kitty Pryde X-Men spinoff.

In the source materials, the Silver Surfer was originally an astronomer who saved his world from Galactus by agreeing to serve under him.

And I definitely just mean for now, as the studio is intent on "business as usual" until something drastic happens to prove otherwise. "There's been zero slowdown on that front given Disney". As far as the other five films go, there hasn't been anything concrete announced, but Fox does have a number of projects that have either been announced, or are in some stage of development.

Despite the looming specter of Disney, 20th Century Fox isn't slowing down their plans to make as many movies as possible with the Marvel licenses they now hold.
