Trump pardons Navy sailor who went to jail for sub photos”

President TrumpDonald John TrumpAccuser says Trump should be afraid of the truth Woman behind pro-Trump Facebook page denies being influenced by Russians Shulkin says he has White House approval to root out "subversion" at VA MORE on Friday pardoned a former Navy sailor who was recently released from prison for mishandling classified information by taking pictures onboard a nuclear submarine. Trump repeatedly invoked the sailor, Kristian Saucier, during his presidential campaign after he was imprisoned for taking the pictures, saying Saucier's life was "ruined" though he did "nothing" compared to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Every time you think Trump can't do something more petty and juvenile, he does something more petty and juvenile.

Saucier served as a machinist's mate on the USS Alexandria, a nuclear attack submarine, from 2007 to 2012.

His lawyers argued that the six photos that Saucier took and retained on his phone were "far less than Clinton's 110 emails" that were classified - and that the crime Saucier was convicted of did not require the government to prove his intent. Upon learning he was in trouble, he destroyed a laptop, a memory card and a camera to ensure no one saw the photos.

"While serving, he regularly mentored younger sailors and served as an instructor for new recruits". The sentencing judge found that Mr.

Saucier has said he merely wanted service mementos. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. "The president is appreciative of his service to the country", she concluded.

U.S. President Donald Trump is welcomed by U.S. Navy Admiral Harry Harris, commander of United States Pacific Command, at its headquarters in Aiea, Hawaii, U.S. November 3, 2017. Last August, he pardoned former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, then awaiting sentencing for contempt of court for defying a federal court order on his treatment of Hispanics.
