Marjory Stoneman Douglas teacher charged after leaving gun in public restroom”

A Marjory Stoneman Douglas teacher who volunteered to carry a gun at the school where 17 people lost their lives was arrested Sunday for allegedly leaving his loaded gun in a public restroom.

According to the arrest report, Simpson said he forgot to pick the gun up after finishing in the restroom.

Spataro fired the gun at a wall before Simpson was in a position to get the gun back, police claimed.

He told police he went back again to acquire the gun and found an displaced guy, Joseph Spataro, " 6 9, who seemed to become drunk, had found it first, ABC information documented.

Simpson was arrested Sunday and charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, police said.

Spataro told police he fired the pistol into "see if it was affluent".

"There was a reasonable likelihood that the firearm could have ended up in the hands of a child or the discharge of the firearm could have wounded another person or child", an arrest affidavit stated.

Simpson told a sheriff's deputy he wrestled the gun away from the man, CBS Miami station WFOR-TV reports. He has also supported the student activists from the school protesting for gun control, saying, "These kids are demanding action, they're going to cause change".

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Trump called for raising the age to buy assault rifles from 18 to 21, boasting that unlike some legislators, he was not afraid of the NRA.

"I was running from the sound of a high school I felt safe in", Simpson said during an MSNBC interview a week after the February 14 shooting.

"I think it's easier to get these types of weapons out of the hands of people that aren't meant to do anything but kill", he said.

ABC affiliate WPLG reached out to Simpson, who would not comment on the case, though he said did not believe that he violated school board rules.

The arrest comes right after the Broward School Board rejected Florida's new program to arm school staff unanimously, following the February 14 shooting at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

On Tuesday, the county school board voted against arming teachers.
