Police get remand of suspects in Rabia rape, murder case”

At least one man was killed and several injured in Karachi on Tuesday when a riot broke out during protests at the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.

The residents of Orangi Town in reaction to this staged a protest against the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl near Kati Pahari.

Police and Rangers officials were present during the burial of the little girl, ensuring justice to the demanding parents.

Then family members of the girl agreed to call off the protest, but the others refused to do so until justice is assured. Baloch said that when the cops failed in their attempts, they baton-charged the protesters and resorted to aerial firing. As a result, two were injured. The protesters accused police of negligence in the case.

The authorities called additional contingent of police to control the situation.

Taking notice of the incident, Inspector General (IG) Sindh A.D. Khowaja ordered DIG Admin Asim Kaimkhani to hold a transparent and unbiased inquiry into the matter.

He told SSP West Omer Shahid that the family of the victim should be taken into confidence. "Raids are being conducted for the arrest of the third suspect", he said.

The wounded men were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), from where one of them was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Although police were earlier hesitant to confirm the report, it was strongly suspected that minor was sexually abused before being strangled to death.

Duty Officer (DO) of Manghopir police station said that Rabia's father reported her disappearance to police at 9 pm on Monday.

The officer said Muhammad claimed that his family wanted to bury his daughter, but the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Saeed Afridi, Advocate Attaullah and Dawood did not allow them to take her body to the graveyard.

The police had confirmed that the child's body bore marks or torture.
