Palestinian professor shot dead in Malaysia, family accuses Israel's Mossad”

A Palestinian family on Saturday accused Israel's spy agency Mossad of killing a Palestinian lecturer in Malaysia.

A Palestinian man was fatally shot by two assailants on a motorbike as he was heading to a mosque for dawn prayers, Malaysian police said Saturday. The Islamist Palestinian movement said Batsh, a research scientist specialising in energy issues, was one of its members. "He died on the spot", the official Bernama news agency quoted Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim as saying.

According to police chief Datuk Seri Mansor Lazim, the two gunmen had waited for al-Batsh in front of a residential building in Setapak district for nearly 20 minutes, and fired at least 10 bullets, four of which instantly killed him.

Mazlan Lazim, the Kuala Lumpur police chief, told reporters that footage from a closed-circuit television showed that the shooters had waited for Fadi for nearly 20 minutes.

The envoy said he left it to the authorities to investigate the case. "We are probing further". But relatives of all al-Batsh think he was focused by Israel. He also said the victim had links with foreign intelligence, but he did not provide evidence. He also worked with the MyCare charity association in Malaysia, which includes several charitable and humanitarian organizations such as the Al-Aqsa Foundation and i4Syria. The deputy prime minister did not elaborate.

The ambassador, Anwar H Al Agha, said Fadi lived with his wife and three children, aged one, five and six, in an apartment at the condominium building near where he was shot. He was a quiet person and was good to everyone.

The Batsh family urged Malaysian authorities to "arrest those responsible for killing him before they flee", and asked for the return home of his body to Jabalia in northern Gaza, where mourners gathered in front of their home. He had been reportedly living in Malaysia for 10 years.

Hamas, in a short statement posted on its website, mourned Fadi's death, described him as a "martyr" and praised his "commitment for the Palestinian struggle".
