No pyjamas please, New Zealand cinema hall requests moviegoers

No pyjamas please, New Zealand cinema hall requests moviegoers”

People in South Taranaki have been banned from wearing their PJs to the movies.

Hawera Cinemas said in recent months it had seen an increasing number of patrons attending in nightwear.

Hawera Cinemas took to Facebook on Friday to post their dress code, which bans "pyjamas, onesies, dressing gowns or dirty gumboots - no matter how cute they are!"

Kirsty Bourke, manager at Hawera Cinemas said over the last two months the cinema has seen "an increase in customers wearing pyjamas and customers wearing dirty gumboots and work boots, so like many restaurants and clubs we made a decision to adopt a dress code".

"We believe that we have a lovely theatre that has a nice atmosphere and we don't think that that kind of attire is appropriate and we believe it lowers the tone of the whole complex".

She said most feedback had been in favour of the ban.

"It's awesome people need to be told to get dressed before going out".

If people turn up in PJs they will be refused entry, she said.

She's confident the change won't be bad for business.

"Just a friendly reminder that we have a dress code at Hawera Cinemas, it's simple really, as long as you are appropriately dressed and are wearing clean footwear you are good to go", the post from 20 April read.

Kirsty Bourke of the Hawera Cinema says restaurants and clubs have had dress codes for years and no one complained.
