Vine's rapturous return has been delayed indefinitely”

If you miss the good old days of Vine and its 6-second video clips, we've got bad news for you. v2, the expected successor to Vine, has been postponed indefinitely, according to v2 creator and Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann. Though Twitter was never able to turn Vine into a massive success, it still attracted an extremely dedicated audience that was severely disappointed when Twitter announced that it was shutting down the service.

Hofmann originally teased that he was building a new iteration of Vine last December, simply called "V2". "There are several reasons for this, including a bit of "sequelitis", but I'd like to explain the biggest one, which is due to financial and legal hurdles" Hofmann wrote on the community forums he set up for V2.

He also said that he "foolishly" announced that it would be a personally funded project and had underestimated the attention it got.

He goes on to state that the incredible interest in the company would require a much higher level of investment than he could personally generate, and that investors would not appreciate Hofmann splitting his time between V2 and his other current projects. He also blamed "overwhelming" legal fees for hamstringing the project, without elaborating.

While there's still no ubiquitous way to share super short videos, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and YouTube are no paltrey competitors. Hofmann says that while there's already code and ideas in place for the app, development can't move forward until the problem of financials can be solved.
