Anupam Kher joins the cast of medical drama 'New Amsterdam'”

The series will be the second medical drama on NBC following Chicago Med, which has yet to be renewed but is considered a lock to return.

Anupam Kher, who has been making his country proud at the global level - be it shooting for the pilot episode of NBC's series New Amsterdam, bagging BAFTA nomination for The Boy with a Topknot and BBC's Mrs Wilson, has now given his fans a reason to rejoice.

"New Amsterdam" is based on the book "Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital" by Dr. Eric Manheimer, who's a producer of the show. It stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher and Tyler Labine. Kher, who shot for the pilot of the show in the U.S. for over a month, says he is excited to be a part of the series.

David Schulner will write and executive produce the series.

"NBC's "New Amsterdam" is anticipated as the next big thing in worldwide television". It was set up with a pilot commitment in September.

Aside from "This Is Us", which got a two-season renewal a year ago, NBC has yet to pick up any of its current dramas for next season.

The show, set at a hospital modeled on New York's Bellevue, centers on the facility's new medical director (Ryan Eggold of "The Blacklist"), who wants to "tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care", per the show's logline. He also previously created the NBC drama "American Odyssey".
