Build 2018: Microsoft brings Windows 10 Timeline feature to Android and iOS”

Microsoft is announcing new cross-platform experiences for Windows 10 at Build 2018 this week. Along with Timeline coming to Microsoft Launcher, Belfiore will announce Your Phone, a new UWP app that will connect your phone with your PC.

On iPhones and iPads, of course, the option of a custom launcher app isn't available, Instead, Timeline support will be offered through the Microsoft Edge app.

There are a couple of things to unpack here. Central to the overall strategy is Timeline, a new feature that launched with the latest Windows 10 update and that allows users to see what they last worked on and which sites they recently browsed and then move between devices to pick up where they left off.

Like Apple and Google, Microsoft also envisioned an ability to pause and resume applications and services across multiple devices. You'll be able to access text messages, photos, and notifications from there.

These updates are part of Microsoft's Continue on PC functionality, which, as its name suggests, lets you send a task from your Android or iOS device to your Windows 10 PC.

In the Google Play Store, Microsoft Edge for Android has logged 1 million downloads, compared with 100 million for Word, Excel, and the other established Microsoft Office apps.

On iOS, Microsoft's home for the Timeline will be the Edge browser.

Your Phone is the first of these new experiences.

As its name implies, Your Phone's main objective is to let you access your phone's content - like text messages, photos, and notifications - right on your Windows 10 PC. Microsoft is also launching an API set for third-party developers, so that they'll be able to put their own apps' data into the graph and have Timeline include it too. Heck, we haven't even really seen it beyond the press image above.
