Mumbai Indians beat KKR by 13 runs

Mumbai Indians beat KKR by 13 runs”

However, in the 9th over Lewis lost his wicket to Russell after being caught off by Lynn at 43 off 28 balls hitting five fours and two sixes.

Mumbai Indians (MI) lived to fight another day in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they notched up a solid win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

On a night that belonged to two batsmen who had donned the opposition jersey earlier in the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians emerged victor to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.

And, when Krunal took a good catch to get rid of the unsafe Russell to give Jasprit Bumrah his first scalp of the day, the visitors were left needing 43 off their final three overs.

Hardik Pandya starred with the ball for Mumbai with 2 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs while Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Markande and Krunal Pandya took a wicket each.

KKR will hope to welcome back in-form Nitish Rana, who was suffering from a back spasm and missed the last game. That's when skipper Rohit Sharma made a decision to bring youngster Mayank Markande back in the attack. The legspinner put down the easiest of chances to throw Kolkata a lifeline. Both batsmen batted brilliantly and Uthappa also completed his half-century during this period. He was dismissed in the next over as the two men he tormented got together.

Under mounting pressure, Andre Russell was the first to blink.

Lewis, who was playing second fiddle, freed his arms striking two consecutive fours off Sunil Narine. Chasing 182, Kolkata failed to go over the line. Dinesh Karthik too played a knock of 36* at the end of the innings but the required run rate had reached way too much as KKR fall short of the target.

Kings XI's opener Lokesh Rahul (84 off 54 balls) continued his supreme run of form and, despite losing Chris Gayle and Agarwal early, he carried the team to its sixth victory in the tournament. Just when Lewis was starting to find the boundaries at will, he was dropped by Rana off his own bowling on 38. Hardik gave the Mumbai innings the late impetus they needed badly.

However, all was not going well for the hosts, as they soon lost captain Rohit Sharma (11), who was followed by Suryakumar.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 181/4 (Suryakumar Yadav 59, Evin Lewis 43; Andre Russell 2/12) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 168/6 (Robin Uthappa 54, Dinesh Karthik 36 not out; Hardik Pandya 2/19) by 13 runs. They remain in fifth spot in the standings with eight points, having earned their fourth win in 10 games.
