Section 144 imposed, internet services blocked in Aurangabad

Section 144 imposed, internet services blocked in Aurangabad”

Violent clashes between two groups have left one person dead besides injuring more than 25 persons in Aurangabad district. Many shops and vehicles were set ablaze during the violent clash. After the clash was reported, Mumbai police rushed to the spot and resorted to the use of teargas shells to disperse the crowd.

Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in the area. Moreover, Section 144 was imposed in the city following the chaos and violence.

On Friday, clashes ensued between 2 groups after illegal water connection to a "religious place" was reportedly disconnected. Many people took to Twitter to report the incident. Internet services too have been suspended in the area, the report added.

"The situation unfolded after two people entered into a fight in a hotel on Friday evening between 6 to 7 pm", said the Police Commissioner.

Several police personnel were also injured as the night wore on. Ten policemen, including including an assistant commissioner, Govardhan Kolekar, and a couple of police station chiefs, including inspector Hemant Kadam and inspector Shripad Paropkari, were injured in the ensuing violence. Thereafter, locals panicked and shut their shops.

However, it is not clear what exactly triggered the clashes between the two communities.

"I appeal to the citizens to maintain peace, do not take law in your own hands".

The police also fired in order to control the rioters, in which one child was injured.

The worst-hit areas were Shahganj, Nawabpura, Rajabazaar and Angribaug which continued to remain calm but tense. The Police were unprepared for such a situation and the lack of full-time commissioner for nearly two months didn't help. At present, a large number of security forces are deployed in the city and stress situation remains. Police force have been multiplied and they have appealed to the people to not fall prey to rumours.
