Researcher claims he bypassed iPhone security limits; Apple calls it 'an error'”

In the article, Apple mentioned that iOS is a secure operating system with many inbuilt security features to protect users against malware and viruses.

These security measures have been the bedrock of Apple's privacy-first approach in recent years, and have pissed off law enforcement agencies that used to be able to access iPhone data by endlessly entering passcodes or asking Apple to just grab the information for them.

Repeatedly trying incorrect passcodes will run the risk of wiping the iPhone contents if a person tries to enter an incorrect code too many times.

"The [passcodes] don't always go to the [secure enclave processor] in some instances - due to pocket dialing [or] overly fast inputs - so although it "looks" like pins are being tested they aren't always sent and so they don't count, the devices register less counts than visible", he said.

When technology websites began reporting this over the weekend, Apple responded, saying it's not true. By "modding" the iOS, you can download applications from third-party websites and stores, customize the interface of the device, etc. Using brute force attack would easily get around with this.

No spaces should be there when you send all four-digit codes from 0000 to 9999.

However, Hickey found that, if an iPhone or iPad was plugged in, any keyboard input would trigger a risky and disabling interrupt request. An attacker could create a massive string of inputs and send them all at once and iOS would allow an endless string of guesses without erasing the device. When the iPhone is plugged in, keyboard input has precedence over the phone's passcode limit feature.

As Matthew Hickey's discovery shows that bypassing the data-erase feature in any device when it is required to be connected to a computer though it does not harm the iOS 12 users with the USB Restricted Mode which simply limits a USB connection for the charging objective only.

The new feature will effectively prevent anyone from using the USB cable for anything other than charging the device if someone hasn't unlocked the device with a passcode within the last hour.

This method also works with six-digit passcodes by running all the possibilities between 000000 to 999999 at one time.
