Technology considered for Nathan's hot dog contest”

According to Nathan's website, on July 4, 1916, four immigrants gathered at this hot dog stand and made the eating contest's history.

Joey Chestnut is going have to make room on his mantle after winning his 11th title at the Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest Wednesday afternoon in Coney Island. He'd just decimated the field by consuming 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes, 19 more than the runner-up and a world record in the annual Independence Day contest.

"I feel like I can do it".

The winners receive the famed "Mustard Belt", along with a monetary prize: first place gets $10,000, second place $5,000, and so on.

Joey Chestnut has won every Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at Nathan's Famous since 2007 with the exception of 2015, when he was upset by Matt Stonie. On the men's side, Chesnutt ate more than 10 complete hot dogs than his closest competitor. Then, it was discovered that a counter didn't count another plate which propelled Jaws' final tally to a record 74.

Many thought Chestnut would have a hard time approaching his previous record because of the heat at the Coney Island location, but it did not bother Chestnut.

Interest in the competition has grown in recent years thanks in large part to the rivalry of star eaters like Chestnut.

Sudo won the women's competition Wednesday when she downed 37 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Seconds after Chestnut's interview finished, ESPN2 switched over to cornhole, leaving everyone involved on the edge of their seats wondering whether Chestnut had indeed eaten 74, as he claimed, or 64, as the unofficial count said.

George Shea, the contest's longtime host, quipped that Sudo was particular about the temperature and amount of water she uses while competing.

Other events being broadcasted today, for the 4th of July holiday, include Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and A Capitol Fourth.
