Maine's Congressional Delegation Is Critical Of Trump's Summit Comments

"Shameful", "disgraceful", "weak", were a few of the comments.

'We have 90% of the nuclear, and that's not a good thing, it's a bad thing. Bob Corker of Tennessee.

US President Donald Trump has arrived home from his one-on-one meeting with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki to a wave of criticism that has crossed party lines.

Well, first of all, all of us have plenty of political rivals. A wary and robust stance toward Russian Federation has been a bedrock of his party's world view.

"He just said it's not Russian Federation".

In an interview with CBS News, Trump said his expectations for the summit were low.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, a Republican and a Trump appointee, responded to Trump's remarks and stood by the United States agencies. And, Trump once again seemed to doubt the USA intelligence community's assessment that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election.

All the while, Trump praised his electoral success and again denied any collusion with Russia, something Putin was happy to agree with, though the Russian leader did admit to a preference for Trump, who campaigned for better ties with Moscow. John Brennan, who served as Central Intelligence Agency director between 2013 and January 2017, called the president's comments "treasonous".

Helsinki showed that Trump meant what he said when he declared repeatedly, "Peace with Russian Federation is a good thing, not a bad thing".

On Twitter former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan called Trump's behavior "nothing short of treasonous". Brennan wondered, "Republican Patriots: Where are you???"

Back home in Russian Federation, political figures have been lining up to praise the results of the Helsinki summit. "I will say this, I don't see any reason why it would be", Trump said.

Putin's assertion, which is similar to a response from a comparable question earlier in the day, directly contradicts the infamous "Steele dossier", a 35-page research document, largely unsubstantiated, that was compiled by British spy Christopher Steele during the Presidential election that details compromising information the Russian government may have collected about Trump. "We've had a phony witch hunt deal drive us apart", he said.

Many US critics had called for the summit's cancellation after new revelations surrounding the alleged election meddling. This was only the second face-to-face meeting between the presidents.

Some US politicians had called for the summit to be cancelled after 12 Russian military intelligence agents were indicted last week by US special counsel Robert Mueller, accused of hacking the presidential campaign of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

"And we get along in Syria too", Trump said. Browder, an outspoken Putin critic, was a driving force behind a U.S. law targeting Russian officials over human rights abuses. Trump's top national security officials, Democrats and most Republicans in Congress say US intelligence agencies got it right in finding that Russians secretly tried to sway the election.

When Trump spoke of the "foolishness and stupidity" of the U.S. foreign policy establishment that contributed to this era of animosity in U.S. -Russia relations, what might he have had in mind?

Mr Trump, when asked about a Russian gas pipeline to Germany, noted that the USA and Russia compete in the energy market.

We are past the point where Trump's conduct can be ascribed to his belief that it is imperative to improve US-Russia relations. However, that changed as of about four hours ago.

US Constitution, Article III, Section 3: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort".

"But Putin does know exactly where and when he didn't get the material that he doesn't have", Colbert said.

'It followed more than two hours of one-on-one discussions involving just the U.S. and Russian leaders, with only translators present.
