Maurizio Sarri: 'Chelsea only need one more player'”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is excited with the prospect of learning from Chelsea's new head coach Maurizio Sarri this season.

The Italian took over from compatriot Antonio Conte last month after almost wrestling the Serie A title from Juventus with old club Napoli last season.

"So, I'm so satisfied - all my period here, even the first year - with the squad we have".

"We would like it [if Luis stays]".

"The way we play is we attack forward, we defend high, we try to get the ball from them and then play our football".

"We are going to improve a lot because of his ideas here in England". We saw it against in preseason against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. "Congratulations to him [for his new contract] and thanks to him for his trust to stay with us for longer".

Can Manchester City pick up where they left off last season or will they have a serious challenger?

'We can try to reduce the gap, ' said Sarri.

A high-octane set-up and such an adjustment to their work under Antonio Conte means Chelsea's players are likely to need more time to adapt to Sarri's attempts to bring a thrilling style.

The news of his new deal, as it must these days, came with an inventive announcement video.

Many of his first team only returned this week, but record signing Riyad Mahrez is available after shaking off an ankle injury picked up in the United States while youngsters Phil Foden, Eric Garcia and Brahim Diaz, who impressed in preseason, could be part of the squad.

"I don't know the hunger we have", he said on the eve of the FA Community Shield clash with FA Cup winners Chelsea.

He has not been able to work with the likes of Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante so this should be seen as another pre-season work-out - even if winning the Community Shield will prove Sarri can deliver trophies. He cites their half-time formation change against Arsenal back in 2016 - the switch that ultimately led to the Premier League title - as an example of their tactical flexibility. "We were so close, we believed it was done, but at the last turn he decided on Chelsea, like Alexis [Sanchez] with United".
