Ohio State trustees deliberate Urban Meyer's coaching future

Ohio State trustees deliberate Urban Meyer's coaching future”

The Ohio State Board of Trustees will meet Wednesday morning to discuss the university's findings from their investigation into head coach Urban Meyer.

It's unknown how much input the Board of Trustees will have on the final decision about Meyer's employment. Smith hasn't been charged or convicted of abuse, but his ex-wife Courtney Smith alleged her husband shoved her against a wall and put his hands around her neck in 2015.

The head coach was placed on administrative leave on August 1, as he's missed the team's preseason training camp this past month. Just how long of a suspension potentially facing Meyer was not relayed by the newspaper. Following the correct protocol was all Meyer had to do, yet this story could hold jobs at stake, as it's already become a major distraction for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes' first game of the year is a week from Saturday against Oregon State. Co-offensive coordinator Ryan Day is the interim coach.

After firing Smith, Meyer told reporters that he knew about a 2009 incident in Gainsville, Florida involving Smith, but Meyer said he did not know about a 2015 incident that happened while Smith was on the Ohio State payroll.

The Buckeyes open the season on September 1.

Meyer has been barred from campus while on leave, and has also been prevented from speaking with players, coaches and others associated with the football program. The case was dropped by police when the woman chose not to pursue charges, but Hyde was suspended three games.

The trustees hired an outside law firm for $500,000 to do the investigation, which took two weeks.

The 19-member board will review the investigative committee's final report on the results of their investigation, with OSU president Michael V. Drake determining Meyer's fate after receiving a recommendation from the regents.
