Trump backs Supreme Court pick but 'could change mind'”

President Donald Trump indicated Wednesday that he could change his mind on Judge Brett Kavanaugh if he believes the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against his Supreme Court nominee.

But then he added, "I only tell you this: This is one of the highest quality people that I've ever met". And she says, 'Well it might not be him.' And there were gaps.

Trump said the allegations of now three women "are all false to me", bemoaning "what they've done to this family, what they've done to his attractive children" and wife.

Over the past few days, other false and uncorroborated accusations have been aired. Republican leaders and Trump have rejected Democratic demands for the FBI to investigate the allegations.

"I want to watch", Mr Trump said ahead of the hearing featuring Christine Blasey Ford, a university professor who has accused Mr Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers.

When asked what kind of message it sends to women to call the allegations a con job, Trump answered, "That's probably the nicest phrase I've ever used".

A third accuser, Julie Swetnick, came forward on Wednesday with the allegation that she was a victim of gang rape at a party in Washington in approximately 1982 and that Kavanaugh was present at the party.

The first allegation came from Christine Blasey Ford, who claimed that Kavanaugh assaulted her while they were in high school by trying to take her clothes off and covering her mouth when she attempted to scream.

Kavanaugh's confirmation would firm up conservative control of the Supreme Court and advance Trump's goal of moving the high court and the broader federal judiciary to the right.

The committee could vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation on Friday, with a final Senate vote early next week.

I denied the allegation immediately, unequivocally, and categorically.

"I just wanted to call and tell you that you are a piece of s-- and Senator Grassley is a f-- piece of s-- and he can't die from a heart attack soon enough", one caller said.

Dr. Ford's allegation dates back more than 36 years, to a party that she says occurred during our time in high school.

Trump and some other Republicans described the allegations as part of a last-minute "smear" campaign, though the president indicated that he will be paying close attention to the hearing.

"No, and we're dealing with an anonymous letter about an anonymous person and an anonymous friend", Kavanaugh said, according to the transcript.

"The United States is a stronger, safer and richer country than it was when I assumed office less than two years ago", Trump declared Tuesday as he defended his "America First" agenda on the global stage. "Why did they wait so long?" What is going on?

Trump could have been referring to his own situation, as several reporters pointed out.
