LTE speed tests show the iPhone XS dominates the iPhone X

LTE speed tests show the iPhone XS dominates the iPhone X”

For $929, you can get yourself into a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (US unlocked model), pair of Gear IconX (2018) wireless earbuds, and Samsung fast wireless charging stand (2018).

Apple ditched Qualcomm LTE modems in favor of Intel's next-gen XMM7560 modems for this year's iPhone XS and XS Max. The feature also helps boost the device's performance when the signal conditions are weak, the report notes.

The lab tests compared the US iPhone XS Max, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the Intel-based 2017 iPhone X, and the Google Pixel 2 (a Qualcomm-powered iPhone X running iOS 12 was not available to use as part of the test). The difference between the three phones gets slimmer as the cellular signals get weaker. Thanks to the 4×4 MIMO antennas, the iPhone XS Max LTE speed is double that of the iPhone X. In fact, at signal strengths less than 120dBm, the iPhone XS and XS Max might even prove to be faster than the Android handsets.

Big, bold, and proud - the Galaxy Note 9 boasts serious power, advanced cameras, and a gorgeous 6.4-inch OLED screen.

Our tests used a 20MHz channel of Band 4, which is used by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and the major Canadian wireless carriers, and attenuated an LTE signal from a strong -85dBm until the modems showed no performance.
But as the signal weakens, the XS Max really comes into competition, proving that he is well tuned.

PCMag also looked at real-world speed data from Ookla Speedtest (disclosure: ExtremeTech's parent company Ziff Davis also owns Ookla). The iPhone XS showed an average of 6.6Mbps faster downloads on all U.S. carriers compared with the iPhone X. In Canada, that difference is a whopping 20.2Mbps. Galaxy Note 9 could more clearly convey the reality of the pictures, and good white balance. What are your thoughts on the poor LTE speeds on the iPhone XS running iOS 12?
