Kavanaugh 'Hoax Set Up By Dems' Will Cost Them In The Midterms

Kavanaugh 'Hoax Set Up By Dems' Will Cost Them In The Midterms”

Jim Carrey, a political satirist in his own right, unsurprisingly had a lot to say at The New Yorker Festival on Saturday - the same day that Judge Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to and sworn in as a justice on the Supreme Court.

Hirono has been a vocal opponent of Kavanaugh's confirmation, calling the FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations against the judge "a sham" on the Senate floor on Thursday and arguing Tuesday on CNN's "New Day" that "the portrayal of himself as practically a choir boy is very much contradicted by his roommate, for example, in college, as well as people who knew him in high school".

The "hoax" remark is the furthest the president has gone in trying to discredit Ford and other accusers.

"It was all made up, it was fabricated and it's a disgrace", he said. "Take a look at the last one", he said.

'I think it's an insult to the American public, ' Trump said of the organized opposition to Kavanaugh.

It reflects a high water mark of the Trump presidency: Republican control of the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the judiciary's top court.

The president - whose Republicans fear losing at least the lower house of Congress in November - angrily predicted that the Kavanaugh row would backfire on Democrats.

"With all of that you can not say that we've done anything but be respectful, and I do".

McConnell added, "We think there's some evidence this is going to be very helpful to us next month".

"I think you're going to see a lot of things happen on November 6 that would not have happened before", Trump said.

McConnell spoke on "Fox News Sunday" and CBS' "Face the Nation", and Coons was on NBC's "Meet the Press".

McConnell credited a meeting to discuss the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe with undecided Republican Senators Jeff Flake, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski as proving critical to the success of Kavanaugh's confirmation.

So how did he celebrate once it became clear Friday the nominee had the votes for confirmation?

"Justice Kavanaugh met with his four law clerks, all women - a first for the Supreme Court - in chambers that had until recently been occupied by Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., who has moved to Justice Anthony M. Kennedy's old chambers", the Times reports.

His nomination was thrown into turmoil in the three weeks preceding the vote after university professor Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a suburban Washington house party more than three decades ago when both were teenagers.

Kavanaugh's hiring choice come after his contentious Supreme Court confirmation that was overwhelmingly opposed by women; polls released in late September showed only 26% of women supported the confirmation, including less than half of Republican women.

Kavanaugh took the oath in a more hurried procedure Saturday, but the White House version will be a chance for the Trump administration to celebrate publicly.

Interested in Supreme Court?

Protesters vented their anger in the hallways of Senate office buildings, on the steps of the US Capitol and in front of the Supreme Court.

"Putting strict constructionists, relatively young, on the courts for lifetime appointments is the best way to have a long-term positive impact on America", McConnell said, "And today is a seminal moment in that effort".

Trump was in Kansas to campaign for Kris Kobach, secretary of state and the Republican nominee for governor, and Steve Watkins, the GOP nominee in the 2nd Congressional District of eastern Kansas.
