DC Comics hires James Gunn after Disney fires him

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has offered his full support for James Gunn developing the sequel from Warner Bros. and DC Films.

In the world of comic book movies, this is super indeed: James Gunn, who was sacked from Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy movies after old offensive tweets of his resurfaced, may be jumping to DC to work on the next Suicide Squad movie, io9 reported Tuesday.

Disney fired the two-time Grammy nominee in July after offensive tweets he wrote between 2008-2012 joking about rape, child abuse, and pedophilia resurfaced in the #MeToo movement.

Michael Rosenbaum, whom James Gunn cast as Martinex in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, responded to Dave Bautista's tweet, which saw the Drax-actor state, "Where do I sign up?"

If you've been keeping up to date with this story, we are sure you're aware that James Gunn was sacked as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3. Three insiders just revealed to TheWrap that James is in talks with DC to direct the next installment of the Suicide Squad series, starring celebs like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto. Is this a good move for James Gunn and Warner Bros.? However, a final decision won't be made until he turns in his script.

"I think it's an incredibly fearless and smart move by the studio", he wrote.

According to Justin Kroll of Variety, O'Connor - who initially joined the project a little over a year ago - opted to exit Suicide Squad 2 following frustrations he had with the studio. The film has always been in development with Warrior director Gavin O'Connor previously set to write and direct Suicide Squad 2 with Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith returning.

This is, in other words, possibly big news for Warner Bros., whose superhero films are for obvious reasons in direct and perpetual competition with Marvel and Disney's.
