NBC Takes Megyn Kelly Off Air, Reportedly Ready to Cancel Show

NBC Takes Megyn Kelly Off Air, Reportedly Ready to Cancel Show”

Megyn Kelly will not appear on her 9 AM iteration of Today and don't look for her tomorrow as she seeks to return to her harder news roots, after driving another nail into the coffin that is her morning show career this week defending blackface Halloween costumes.

In place of the live show that had been scheduled for Wednesday, NBC broadcast a previously recorded episode of "Megyn Kelly Today".

Multiple news organizations have reported that the future of "Megyn Kelly Today" is in doubt.

Kelly came under fire after her October 23 broadcast, when she said during a roundtable discussion of Halloween costumes that it isn't "racist" for white people to darken their skin with makeup, as long as they're portraying an actual person or character. The controversy, which made national news headlines, elicited disappointed statements from leadership at NBC as well as from Kelly's peers.

She apologized for her remarks at the opening of her show Wednesday.

"You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween or a black person who puts on white face for Halloween".

"When I was a kid, that was OK, so long as you were dressing up as a character", Kelly, who was born in 1970, told an all-white panel at the time.

After being thrashed for her remarks and taken to the woodshed on social media, Kelly apologized to her colleagues in an email, saying she now realized that "the history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent, the wounds too deep". The host also did not shy away from reporting aggressively on sexual harassment stories that affected NBC News. Two sources close to the situation confirmed to CNN that "Kelly's show will be ending", and they said that the network is now discussing how to wrap up the show. Sometimes I talk and sometimes I listen. But sources told CNN and Variety that the cancellation of "Megyn Kelly Today" has been a topic of discussion since before the blackface backlash. "I learned that given the history of blackface being used in very bad ways by racists in this country it is not okay for that to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise".

Lack condemned her comments Wednesday at a town hall meeting with new staffers.
