Riyadh won't extradite Khashoggi case suspects”

Saudi Arabia has refused to extradite two suspects in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, after Turkey's chief prosecutor filed warrants for their arrest.

Fidan's briefing comes amid calls by six US Senators to hold Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman accountable for Khashoggi's death at Saudi Arabia's consular premises in Istanbul on October 2.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir rejects the Turkish demand for an global inquiry into the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

"We don't extradite our citizens", he said at a news conference at the end of the annual Gulf Cooperation Council summit.

The Washington Post columnist and strong critic of bin Salman entered the diplomatic facility in Istanbul on that day to secure documents for a pending marriage. Erdogan has complained that a Saudi prosecutor who visited Istanbul to investigate the killing didn't share information.

With the world watching, after initially saying he had left the consulate alive, weeks later the Saudi leadership admitted he was killed there.

After Kushner visited Saudi Arabia with Trump in June 2017, bin Salman ousted his cousin Prince Mohammed bin Nayef and replaced him as crown prince.

"The Turkish authorities have not been as forthcoming as we believe they should have been", he said, quoted by AFP news agency.

After that, there are only the sounds of Khashoggi's screams and a saw as well as a voice identified as belonging to Dr. Salah Muhammad al-Tubaiqi, the head of forensic medicine at Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry telling the others to put on earbuds to drown out the sounds of butchering a man alive. "We have not received it in the manner that it should have been received".

Turkey's president Recep Erdogan said the order to kill the reporter came from the highest levels of the Saudi government, but has insisted it was not ordered by King Salman.

It was Kushner who had become the crown prince's "most important defender" in the White House after the killing, several people familiar with the matter told The Times.

The murder has damaged Riyadh's worldwide reputation and Western countries including the United States, France and Canada have placed sanctions on almost 20 Saudi nationals.

Last month, the US Treasury sanctioned 17 Saudis, including Mr Qahtani but not Mr Asiri, for their role in Mr Khashoggi's murder.
