UAE delegation arrives at GCC summit in Riyadh”

Qatar denies the charges.

39th GCC summit held in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh ended, the Secretary-General Abdellatif al-Zayani read the closure declaration in which member countries underscored their loyalty to the organization.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman has slammed "baseless" statements of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), saying that the council has turned into a front for proclaiming the policies of some of its member states.

Earlier in the day, Saudi King Salman received the heads of the UAE, Bahraini, Kuwaiti and Omani delegations.

During the GCC Summit, leaders of the member states agreed on the appointment of a commander of their unified military command to complete a joint defence system. The leaders stressed the GCC's pivotal role in maintaining security and stability in the region and combating terrorism along with partners in the global community.

The rapid regional and worldwide developments make it very important to address them with a common vision that takes into consideration the peculiarity of the GCC experience and its good endeavours to ensure better future for the GCC peoples characterised by growth and stability.

Saudi Arabia, along with allies UAE and Bahrain, accuses Tehran of fomenting unrest among Shiites in the Gulf, and has backed the U.S.in piling pressure on Iran.

This contrasts with Kuwait and Oman, which prefer normalising ties with the Islamic republic.

They also extended thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Summit, Saudi wise leadership, and people for hosting the meeting.

King Salman claimed the Saudi-led coalition "continues to support efforts to reach a political solution to the Yemen crisis" while a political solution "which contributes to the establishment of a transitional government" must be found for the Syrian war.

The conflict has killed nearly 10,000 people since 2015 when the coalition intervened, according to the World Health Organization, though some rights groups say the toll may be five times higher.

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani was invited by Riyadh, which severed diplomatic ties with Doha in 2017 along with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to the Gulf Cooperation Council talks.

A critic of the crown prince, Khashoggi was killed by a hit squad in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 in what the kingdom described as a rogue operation.

Saudi King Salman greeted GCC leaders Sunday as they descended down a golden escalator at a Riyadh air base and never mentioned Qatar in his remarks to the summit.

It also revealed that member states would work to ensure financial unity until 2025, and work towards establishing a unified military command.

"The members of the council do not want the crisis around Qatar to have a negative impact on the work of the council", al-Jubeir said, as aired by Arab TV channels.
