Michigan Family Killed in Wreck”

A family of five from MI was killed in a head-on crash by a driver going the wrong way on the interstate near Lexington, Kentucky, police said.

The southbound pickup truck being driven in the northbound lanes struck the family's sport utility vehicle at 2:30 a.m.in Lexington.

The family was identified as 42-year-old Issam Abbas, 38-year-old Rima Abbas, 14-year-old Ali Abbas, 13-year-old Isabella Abbas and 7-year-old Giselle Abbas.

Local media reported in MI that the death of the family has devastated relatives and friends.

Dr. Rima Abbas, 38, is a physician at the Beaumont Medical Center in Garden City, specializing in family medicine.

According to our sister station in Lexington, WKYT, the crash killed a family of five from Northville, Michigan, and 41-year-old Joey Lee Bailey of Georgetown.

Though a toxicology report is pending, the coroner says alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.

The Lexington Police Department is now asking for help from anyone in the public who may have seen the white pickup truck prior to the collision.

Witnesses are asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 859-258-3663.
