Emma Stone Tells Sandra Oh She's ''Sorry'' at 2019 Golden Globes

In case you've been sleeping under a rock for the past few hours - The 76th Golden Globes took place last night. At one point, things got extremely real when Oh joked about the Blockbuster hit Crazy Rich Asians, calling it, "the first studio film with an Asian American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha".

The camera then panned to Stone, who could be seen mouthing "I'm sorry", seemingly apologizing for her character Allison Ng, who is a quarter Chinese, a quarter Hawaiian and half Swedish.

Sandra Oh took a moment to congratulate Crazy Rich Asians for getting a Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy nomination but in doing so she ended up getting an apology from Emma Stone.

Released in 2015, Cameron Crowe's Aloha was a critical and commercial bomb, receiving widespread criticism for the casting of Stone as an Asian-American character.

Stone has addressed the controversy in 2015 with saying she became the "butt of many jokes".

"I'm sorry!" Stone could heard shouting from the audience after Oh's dig on Sunday.

The joke being that, Ghost in the Shell starred Scarlett Johansson as a Japanese woman, and Michael Pitt as a Japanese man, and Aloha saw Emma Stone playing the role of a part-Chinese, part-Hawaiian woman.

"I've learned on a macro level about the insane history of whitewashing in Hollywood and how prevalent the problem truly is", Stone told The Guardian. She added: "There are some flaws in the system". "It's ignited a conversation that's important". "My eyes have been opened in many ways this year".
